Guest kandykane1297 Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 I haven't used my desktop for like 6 months and now I have forgotten my password to logon to my computer. Is there a way to get around entering the password?
Guest JS Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Re: password Note: There is a hidden 'Administrator' account (the account name is: Administrator) in Windows. The default password for this hidden account is normally blank (none). For XP Home users: Boot the computer into Safe Mode Do this by pressing the F8 key (several times) after the Power On Self Test is finished, until the Start menu appears. This will get you to the correct menu window. Once in Safe Mode, you will see the normally hidden Administrator account and any other accounts. (Note: Accounts are displayed alphabetically). Use the mouse or Up/down arrow keys to highlight the 'Administrator' account; Remember as mentioned above: The default password is a blank (no password required). Also See: Forgotten your Windows XP Home password http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894902/en-us and: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894901/ For XP Pro users: You do not need to go into Safe Mode. At the Welcome Screen, do/press the Ctrl-Alt-Del keys twice to display the Windows logon box. Type in "Administrator" (without the quotes) and 'if' you assigned a password when you set up Windows, then enter it. (Note: by default the password is blank, no password need be entered) Once your in, then: Click Start/Run/and type in: Control Userpasswords2 and then press OK Next click the 'Users' tab (if it's not already selected). Now click on the user's account name.that you want to change/reset the password for, and Click the 'Reset Password' button located at the bottom right. Enter the new password into the 'New password' box, Enter the same password again in the 'Confirm new password' box. Next click the 'OK' button and once again click 'OK'. Finally restart your PC, and logon using the account name and password you entered. Guest Mick Murphy Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 RE: password http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/ Also, read the instructions at the above link on how to make a bootable CD(from a file you download from there) to delete the existing password, to give you access to your computer. -- Mad Mike "kandykane1297" wrote: > I haven't used my desktop for like 6 months and now I have forgotten my > password to logon to my computer. Guest ju.c Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Re: password Resetting a Forgotten Password NOTES - The built-in Administrator account is found on the Welcome screen only if there are no other accounts available, other than Guest, or when the computer is booted into Safe Mode. - To get Admin account on the "Welcome Screen" make sure that there are no accounts logged in. - The built-in Administrator account can create and change passwords for all users, but cannot restore a forgotten one. - When a password is changed, that account will lose all encrypted files, personal certificates and stored Internet Explorer passwords or network resources. - Press "CTRL-ALT-DEL" twice to get the classic Windows logon box. Type: Administrator. If this account has a password, enter it. Otherwise, leave the it blank. - Recovering a password is much more difficult. Using a cracking program can take weeks! RESET A PASSWORD USING THE ADMINISTRATOR ACCOUNT 1. Boot into Safe Mode. 2. Log on using the built-in Administrator account. 3. Open: Control Panel -> User Accounts. 4. On the Users tab, select a user name, the password to change and click Reset Password. RESET A PASSWORD USING MICROSOFT'S ERD COMMANDER 1. Install it, run it and burn the image to a CD. 3. Boot the CD and run the Locksmith Wizard, found under Start -> System Tools. 4. The Locksmith Wizard very easy to use, just select an account and input a new password. Too easy!
