Guest Skippybox Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Hi, I am trying to use the windows explorer switches, but have a problem combining /root with /select. Individually they work, but together I get problems. Initially, I used: C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXE /e,/root,c:\ucd,/select,c:\ucd\module. I tried it different ways but usually I get C:\ to open instead. I tried skipping the comma before /select and when I try a file, I get a warning that the path does not exist or is not a directory. If I add an extension to the end of the file it sometimes gives me a File Download box. Other times, like for a jpg file, it actually displays the image in the 2nd pane! If I choose a directory instead of a file, it selects it in the folder pane. Also, in none of these trials does the /root actually work; I can see all the folders above the /root! Except, when I did the .jpg file, the folder structure did not expand, it just showed the normal items. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong? These switches are supported in XP aren't they? It shows at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307856 they are.
Guest Gerry Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Re: Windows Explorer Switches Errors %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e, c: -- Hope this helps. Guest Skippybox Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Re: Windows Explorer Switches Errors Thanks Gerry. That helped for selecting the .jpg, but the other conditions repeat themselves. Also, /root still does not work with your suggestion; I can still see all the folders above it. Anybody have another idea? Guest Skippybox Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Re: Windows Explorer Switches Errors Can anyone get the Windows Explorer switches /root and /select to work together, and correctly on XP? Thanks in advance.
Guest ju.c Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 Re: Windows Explorer Switches Errors You deleted the previous posts, please don't do that. Thanks. Guest Skippybox Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 Re: Windows Explorer Switches Errors Sorry, I was trying to re-phrase my question to make it easier to understand. I thought by deleting the previous posts it would be less confusing. "ju.c" wrote: > You deleted the previous posts, please don't do that. Guest ju.c Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 Re: Windows Explorer Switches Errors I've made that mistake too. Some people, myself included, use a news reader program, like Windows Live Mail, to read posts. Sometimes we delete, for one reason or another, a post. Then a new post appears, but it's missing the previous posts, so we don't know the rest of the story. Thank you for understanding. Guest ju.c Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 Re: Windows Explorer Switches Errors Since no one has answered I would like to try to solve this problem, but I need to know what you are trying to do. You want to open the folder C:\ucd\ with the folder C:\ucd\module\ selected? ju.c "Skippybox" <Skippybox@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:6EFB101B-4243-4F85-B517-9A71F8C40713@microsoft.com... > Thanks Gerry.
