User Profile hangs

Recommended Posts

I have a user that when he logs onto our TS 2003 box it hangs at loading

your personal settings. He did not have any issues in the past. This has

just started happening. I was going to rename his current profile and let

him log on and then I would just copy over what he needed from his old

profile to the new one but.....when I try to rename the old profile it says

Access is denied. Make sure disk is not full or write-protected and that the

file is not in use. I am assuming that there is a file within this profile

that is locked or hung by the system. Is there anyway to unlock it without

restarting the server? IS there anyway to see what file is locked in that

profile? We have UPHClean installed but that does not help.

Also I wanted to add the profile is only 13.8MB and we don't use roaming

profiles.

You could use process explorer

(http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx) to see

what is being kept open and potentially close it.

RE: User Profile hangs

Try Unlocker (http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker), for me works fine...

Re: User Profile hangs

Great tool! But I can't find anything that is locked.

Have you tried taking ownership and assigning the administrator full

security settings (to all folders and files)? That usually fixes this

and allows me to do whatever I want.

BTW, when you do this, you will get an "Unknown" profile if you list

profiles under My Computer properties...

Re: User Profile hangs

Failing that give the server a good old reboot. That might even sort his

problem with logging on.
