RE: restore point 2008

Hello NT,

Thanks for posting here.

According the research, Windows XP and Windows Vista have a built-in

feature of creating system restore point. However, the function doesn't

exist on Windows Server 2008. For Windows Server 2008, I would like to

suggest that you consider using Windows Server Backup feature for the

backup solution.

For more information, please refer to:

Hope it helps.

RE: restore point 2008

Hello,

I was just in a situation where I let Windows Update install several

updates, and then none of my XP clients could connect! I looked for the

restore point that had always been taken on pre-Win2008 systems and until

this post assumed I wasn't looking in the right places!

Anyway, I have now taken a backup of the C: drive using the "Windows Server

Backup" - one time option (a Scheduled backup requires a dedicated hard

disk--what's with that?). But to see if that was going to be of any value I

started a restore from it, and now it's saying "One or more system file or

folder objects were selected for recovery. The recovery cannot be done to the

original location."

Is wbadmin the only option supplied with Windows Server 2008 to provide the

"restore point" function that used to come with XP & Vista? If so, does

"wbadmin start systemstatebackup..." save the same information as the

"restore point"? Will a "wbadmin start systemstaterecovery..." return the

system to a state before an update was supplied?

Thanks for your help.

Wendell
