office file browser broken

When I take the file>open option for MS Office applications and try to

navigate to an existing office file, the file browser takes 3 to 4 minutes to

display a folder and file list. Then if I click on a drive letter or folder,

it takes another 3 to 4 minutes to display the new list. Nothing seems to be

cached, every click takes this long. Also, it is using a lot of cycles

because other applications hang while the new list is being generated.

Any ideas what is going on, or better, how to stop this behavior?

I think this started after a recent windows update, but I am not sure.

I am using XP service pack 2 and Office XP. Some Office apps are SP2, some

are just the original install version.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: office file browser broken

It's probably registry corruption, check both links or possible solution.
