hello i installed a server TSE 2008 on september and configure it for my

users (20)

they where using it now since the 10 september whitout problems

but since 2 days the server had big problem:

- service RPC is down ...

- service TSe is down

- unable to install a new software

i did'nt found why

i hav'nt yet made a backup on this server ....

so my only choice is to reinstall it this night ...and instal backup

but i will not have time to remake the user profile, so i want to copy it ,

is it possible ?

i know that i can make roaming profile, but it miss some things , the

winmail configuration for example

can you give me a solution to copy the user profile and to restore it after

the reinstallation

thanks

Re: copy user profile

You can use backup/restore to copy user profiles. Or Robocopy with the /b

parameter.

RE: copy user profile

Hello NT,

Thank you posting here.

Based on the research, for Windows Server 2008 terminal server, the roaming

profile is a good solution in the scenario.

Solution

1. Apply roaming profile on the Windows Server 2008 terminal server to save

the users profile on the other server.

2. Run regedit on all the clients, find and locate the registry key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows

NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\ExcludeProfileDirs, and remove the value of

ExcluedProfileDirs. This should be help to roaming the data under the

C:\Users\(your username)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail to the server.

3. Logon and logoff on all the clients to make it save to the server.

4. For the consideration of performance, I would like suggest that you keep

using roaming profile after the reinstallation of the terminal server.

Hope it helps.

Re: copy user profile

thanks david, i will test that

before 2008 i was using roaming profile, but when i see that the profile was

different and so i make the choice to use local profule for the moment,

because i didn't know what will append if i have a roaming profile and that

my user sometimes connect to a 2003 TSE or to a 2008 TSE

can you give me the best practice in this case if my user connect sometines

on a 2008 and sometimes on a 2003
