Guest Tester Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Hi there, Would a W2K3 server still use Netbios protocol somehow for the clients to be able to connect to its shares? Thank you, T
Guest Meinolf Weber Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Re: server protool Hello Tester, You can disbable Netbios over tcp/ip on the NIC's if not needed. Also it can be used or you can use a WINS server. What are your trying to achive or is your problem? Assumption is all the networks are connected through firewalls to protect each network. Does active directory/W2K3 servers still use Netbios to allow workstations to connect to shares? Thank you, T
Guest Meinolf Weber Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Re: server protool Hello Tester, 137 UDP. 138 and 139 are used from netbios. Did you block all of them? Even without netbios you can also access shares with DNS path's. Also Active directory uses Netbios for creating trusts for example. Guest Meinolf Weber Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Re: server protool Hello Tester, Yes, your example is correct. Also you can use the ip address \\1.1.1.1\share or \\server\share Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. ** Please do NOT email, only reply to Newsgroups ** HELP us help YOU!!! http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm > Even without netbios you can also access shares with DNS path's. > >> Best regards >> >> Meinolf Weber >> > Hi, > How would I access a share using the DNS path? > Click Start, Run: > \\server.domain.com\share > Thanks for everything, T
