Guest localshop Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 I have automatic updates set to Automatically download recommended updates for my computer and install them at 20:00. I left my pc on all night and it is still on SP3. Will SP3 not install via automatic updates? Thanks

If you have a third party firewall, you need to make sure it's disabled and doesn't boot with Windows and use the XP firewall during the SP3 install. Alias

It would be better for you to download it and install it manually *after* doing proper prep work. Did you just reinstall WinXP and are you running WinXP SP2? Guest localshop Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Re: Installing SP3 via Automatic Updates Hi, you say it will but it hasn't yet (and SP3 has been out a while), is this because I have McAfee Antivirus running? Basically I don't want it to install automatically anyway so I think I will have to apply the SP3 blocker tool to stop it. Guest PA Bear [MS MVP] Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Re: Installing SP3 via Automatic Updates See my reply to your post. If you configure Automatic Updates to the "Notify Only" setting, you can decline the download of the WinXP SP3 installer. Note that WinXP SP3 must be installed by April 2010 or the machine will not be offered any more critical security updates. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ localshop wrote: > Hi, you say it will but it hasn't yet (and SP3 has been out a while), is > this because I have McAfee Antivirus running? > > Basically I don't want it to install automatically anyway so I think I > will > have to apply the SP3 blocker tool to stop it. > > Thanks > > "Alias" wrote: > >> localshop wrote: >>> I have automatic updates set to Automatically download recommended >>> updates >>> for my computer and install them at 20:00. >>> >>> I left my pc on all night and it is still on SP3. >>> >>> Will SP3 not install via automatic updates? >>> >>> Thanks >> >> It will but it's not a good idea to let it being as you have to disable >> all anti virus and anti malware apps first and you need to reboot TWICE >> after it's installed.
