Is anyone else having problems getting in to their Hotmail account please?

It asks you to sign in and then a message comes up with this...

"Your account has been blocked

Why are you seeing this?

Someone may have used your account to send out a lot of junk messages (or something else that violates the Windows Live Terms of Service).

We're here to help you get your account back.

What do you need to do?

We'll ask you to provide us with a mobile phone number where we can send you a verification code and we'll add this phone number to your Windows Live profile for future use. After you enter the code, you can change your password and sign in.

We've cleaned your account settings

Often customers get here because someone else has access to your account and is using it without your knowledge to send spam. To protect you and your contacts, we've removed any Hotmail auto-replies or linked accounts you may have had."

It asks you to continue to the next page where it asks for your mobile phone number so it can send you a code to sort the problem out...we did this but received no code...what's going on?

Thanks for your help.

Sorry to hear your woes. I 've just been through this with my hotmail account for exactly the same reason.I found the easiest way to get my account back was to go via the Customer Service link to verify your account details and supply another email address for them to contact you and send a verification code.

The mobile number way did not work for me either!

I had the same problem this morning and after 6 hours of googling and hair pulling sorted it. I did as helcaraxe suggested and it was fine. That is why I am here! If I was here this morning I would not have a bald patch!

Having sorted this now though, my Hotmail is very slow in sending mail and sometimes shows a message saying unable to connect to hotmail, even though mail gets sent after a while. I use Firefox and normal browsing speed has not changed. I have run scans and defragged.

Any suggestions.

Hi, to all involved here, and a warning, Hotmail accounts have been targeted quite a lot recently and the way the hackers have been doing it is by using random password generators.

These things run through what are mainly commonly used types of password and they are then fired at the account they will have got your name and address for.

These are usually harvested off those E Mails you get that are the type where you are asked to pass them on. By the time you see it there are many addresses on the top of it as to where it has been already, and the hacker who generated the E Mail in the first place is usually one of them and collecting all those extra addresses.

So, the answer is to not bother with sending these things on and delete them, that way the hacker won't get your address, and secondly and most importantly is create a strong password.

That is best done with random letters, interspersed with random numbers. The Password generators will certainly be very unlikely to guess it in the time allowed by the MSN or Hotmail server computers.

Also change that password on a regular basis too so that even if they do gain access and use your account for spamming, they won't for very long if you have changed the password.

Also, be aware this is happening, and if a friend or contact asks or even moans he has received spam or junk mail supposedly from you, change your password straight away.

The same should be done for friends or contacts who seemingly send you spam and junk, let them know and tell them to change their password.

As for slow mail sending, I would try to get in touch personally and ask if there is a reason, as it may well be the Hotmail people monitoring that it doesn't carry the typical spam signatures, before allowing it to go on.

Nev.
