chrislc Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Hi all, just joined so i hope someone can help. Just bought a new hard drive for my pc,as the old onebroke, clicking etc. So lost all data on it. So new hard drive, and just installed windows xp on it, which i had to buy again. After install, everything went fine, however the 1st default screen was bad, i checked and its on the lowest setting for colours and resolution, and wont let me adjust it. Also i tried to go on the internet, to maybe check, and it wont connect. Wifi is on,as i am using it now on my phone. Device management showed to yellow marks, ethernet and vga. Anyone know what my next step would be? I tried to add a connection but its either me being dumb, or it thinks i want to dial up,add a numbet etc. Thanks for any help. Quote
Jelly Bean Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Hello and welcome. You will need a laptop or a computer connected to the internet.Borrow a friends if you have to. If your computer is a brand name like HP,Compaq,Dell etc then go the the makers site and under there support tab put in the make and model of your computer and it will give you hardware drivers to download. You can download and save them to a disk, floppy disk,USB pen drive. Then transfer to the XP computer. Install them then you will be able to connect to the internet and sort out your display. chrislc Posted May 24, 2012 Author Posted May 24, 2012 Hi, thanks for replying, its an emachine. If i could get to another pc,and find the site, what exactly would i be looking to download? Or would it be obvious when i went to the site? Quote
Jelly Bean Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 What model number is your Emachine? You need to look in the list for VGA download and Eithernet. Click this link: http://support.gateway.com/us/en/emac/product/ Choose desktop from the list then model letter then letter and numbers and it will give you your downloads Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
chrislc Posted May 24, 2012 Author Posted May 24, 2012 Its a 2240, just checked google, looks like its a t2240. Will get a nrw pc soon, but for now i'll take a look at that site. Quote
KenB Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 The drivers are here: http://support.gateway.com/us/en/emac/product/default.aspx?tab=1&modelId=1503 The problem with XP ( unlike Vista and Win7 ) is that the drivers are not embedded in the software and you have to install them separately after installing the OS. Let us know how you get on :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
chrislc Posted May 25, 2012 Author Posted May 25, 2012 Thanks, i checked the link, its 'vga' for my screen. Would it be 'modem for internet connection? Would it be impossible to transfer these files from my phone to pc? My phone does download them fine. Thanks. Quote
Jelly Bean Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 If you need eithernet driver you should download the chipset driver package/Modem and install tham. Chipset usaly contains several hardware drivers. If your phone can handle the package then use your phone and then connect your phone to the computer which is usaly via USB port.Open My Computer, locate your phone and move the packages from the phone to a file on your computer. Then install from there... KenB Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 Would it be 'modem for internet connection? On early machines they came with an inbuilt modem - this was for connecting via "Dialup". If you use a router then you should have an Ethernet Card http://www.topbits.com/wp-content/uploads/images/change-mac-address.JPEG or a Wireless Adapter How do you connect to the internet from this machine ? EDIT.... Sorry J-B I didn't see you on-line :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! KenB Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 If you use a router - how do you connect to it ? If by cable then you need to look inside for the make and model number of the Network Card.
