Strange Window On Desktop

A few days ago a strange window started appearing on my son's computer every

time he turns it on and Windows loads to the desktop. Windows loads, his

desktop displays, but on the desktop another window displays (taking up about

1/2 the screen) that looks somewhat like the Windows Explorer Window but

there is nothing listed in the blank area below the toolbar (where it says

"File Edit View Favorites Tools Help"). On the top left, in the blue area

above the toolbar, it says "Common". If I select File, the dropdown menu

appears and the first item listed at the top of the dropdown menu is ATI

CATALYST® Control Center. I'd like to attach a screenshot but I don't

think I can do that on this forum.

Is there some way I can keep this window from displaying when the Windows

Desktop loads? Thanks. Mike

Re: Strange Window On Desktop

Go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 /i shell32

If that doesn't correct the issue (and it should) use this automated edit:

Remove Common Tasks from Desktop. This regedit or small VB Script utility

will modify the System Registry to remove Common Tasks from your Desktop.

Remove Common Tasks from the Desktop (Line 15)

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it

and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by

right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.
