You get incremental *choices* via menu. If what you meant was the progress slider, whether it works or not depends on sync data in the media content. Complain to whomever compiled the content to which you are listening or watching or both.
Guest plugginaway Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Re: wmp11 not true. In the 'play speeds' enhancement box, there is a check box for, 'snap slider to common speeds.' so, i think there is a slider. in fact on some files, there IS. but I can't figger why some don't have it - no ajustment allowed cheers VanguardLH wrote: > plugginaway wrote: > > >>Play speed slider missing bar. >> >>are there file type restrictions to changing speed? >> >>thanx > > > Play *speed* is not a slider. Now you've identified WHERE to find what you were talking about rather than having to hunt around. I played a couple .mp3 and .mid files and the slider worked to alter playback speed. I opened a couple .wav files and the slider was disabled. So maybe .wav files don't allow changing their playback speed. I used Windows Media Encoder to convert an .mp3 file to an .wma file (I didn't have any). The play speed slider was enabled for the .wma file. The slider was also enabled for a couple .wmv files that I tried. I only have a few .mpg files. For one, the slider was disabled. For another, it was enabled and I could change playback speed. I tested ..avi files and for one the slider was disabled and for another it was enabled. You never mention WHAT filetype with which you having a problem. Apparently either some encodings don't permit control over playback speed or they must be recorded with sync data that allows changing that attribute. Not all media can be played at variable speeds. I think the media must have timecode data implanted within it to permit the synchronization needed for variable speed. In none of my tests was the slider bar missing. It was there but either enabled or disabled.
