Guest Rob Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 I have 2 internal hdd's working on a newly installed motherboard. 1 older hd is an old XP Home version that is now Drive F: The other is a new hd (C:) that has fresh XP install. Two Users on the old hd were not set up with a password login and I successfully transferred files to the new hd. One User had a password for login on the old hd. I have tried to access the User's Documents folder to copy/transfer from the old hd to the new and get "Access denied" I've tried to change the User to login with the same original password but folder is still not accessible. I assume the error is due to the folder having password protection that my XP cannot access due the fresh install. How do I get access to the old User files on F:? Note also that the old hd is not bootable anymore. TIA Rob

Simple file sharing is the only way for accessing files and folders under XP Home. However, if the OP does a safe boot, which the show the Administrator account, he can login to that account and change ownership of these files and folders. Or, the Administrator account can change the file and folder permissions to allow new accounts access to the files and folders on the older drive. Jim
