My COM port disappeared from Device Manager? I have no serial port functionality?

My COM port disappeared from Device Manager? I have no serial port functionality? Under Ports (COM & LPT) all I see is ECP Printer port (LPT1). The BIOS sees and has no problems with the serial port at the hardware level.
