Seth Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 I found the manual for your computer, unfortunately it's a generic one that doesn't say anything about your wireless. What concerns me now, is that icon that appears with an X when you try to turn on your wireless. Do you remember seeing it before? Do you know what program it is? Try right clicking on it instead of double clicking it. Do you know if there are normally other networks in range? The manual mentions what the fn keys activate, but you have to refer to InfoCentre for your particular computer. It should be on the desktop or on a cd that came with the computer. strikes Posted January 3, 2008 Author Posted January 3, 2008 the icon is the little monetor (tv) that is normally there for any network connection i think. when i right click the icon it says 4 things "change windows firewall settings" "open network connections" "repair" "view available wireless networks" Quote
Seth Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Try the last one. If it doesn't work, try this: http://support.packardbell.com/uk/item/index.php?i=7036000000&ppn=PB17D01101 Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Seth Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Well I'm out of ideas. At this point, I would buy a separate wireless card like this: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=2698&msg=706706 Quote Need help with your computer problems? Seth Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 i have tried connecting to other computers but it wont even turn my wireless on so i cant connect to anything' date='[/quote'] I think your best option at this point Strikes is to purchase a wireless card as I indicated in a previous post. Seth Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 You're very welcome. I think you'll find that for all the time and effort involved, then a new wireless card is in order. Please keep up posted with your progress. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here If Free PC Help has helped you then please consider a donation. hardware_dave Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 I am sorry seth, but I dont see the point in buying a new wifi card at this point. Out of all the computers I have worked on I have never seen a internal wifi card fail. Strikes - If you would like to try a few more things - Go into device manager and get the make of the wireless card. Double check that it has no error marks next to it. Right click on the task bar > properties > untick hide inactive icons (if it is ticked) Hover your pointer over each icon (by the clock) and read the popup. Post back a description of any that are related to networking. Is the router you are trying to connect to yours ? Can anyone else connect to it ? Some laptops can take a long time to turn the wireless on/off. Turn it on and go get a cup of tea and see if its come on when you get back. At this point we dont care if it connects, we just want the led to come on. Leave it on mains while doing this, some laptops have funny ideas about power managment. Hardware_dave PS I do networking for a living. Quote Never ascribe to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity
