Guest ColTom2 Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 Hi: I updated Sysinternals Process Monitor to Version 2.0 and now every time that I open Process Monitor 2.0 I get the following warning: "The version of Dbghelp.dll configures does not support the Microsoft Symbol Server. Please download and install the Microsoft Tools for Windows to get a version that does". I have downloaded and installed the WinDbg, but I have no clue as to what to do next. I also installed all the Symbols in the C\windows\symbols folder. Thanks for any help.
Guest ColTom2 Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 Re: Process Monitor Warning I forgot to mention that I am running XP MCE(2005) SP3 with all updates installed. Also I never had this problem with any of the prior Process Monitor versions. I did try to run and got the following saying Symbol file could not be found. Thanks "ColTom2" <noemailaddress@nomail.com> wrote in message news:OhEEabzJJHA.1936@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... Guest ColTom2 Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Re: Process Monitor Warning I found the work around below on Sysinternals Forum which resolved the issue. You have to install the Debugging Tool for Windows (x86) to acquire the needed file Dbghelp.dll (version 6.9.0003.113). "Finally found a work around to this issue. I copied the Dbghelp.dll (version 6.9.0003.113) of the latest debugging tools to the directory where ProcMon is. Through the "Option > Configure Symbols" option, I selected the new Dbghelp.dll in the ProcMon folder using the Browse function. And magically, it worked. Thanks for telling me that I can actually use an external Dbghelp.dll other than the one in WINDOWS\system32 through the option."
