More problems I am sorry to say.

When I turn on my computer (running Windows XP) I get an error message that

reads, "System Error: A duplicate name exists on the network"

I have never seen this one before and don't know what to do to get rid of

it. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Kate,

This issue can happen if you have Two or more than one machine connected to

a network using the same ID!

Say you named all machines with Kate Galway and then you are trying to

connect to the Network, the server will issue this error tellingyou that

another name existing with the same name and need your attention!

I my guess right try to change the name of the machine to something unique

by doing this step:

Right click on My Computer click on Properties, and then click on the

Computer Name tab and you'll see something like this:

Computer description:[ My home PC ]

Full computer name: KateGalway for ex..

Workgroup: Workgroup

To Rename this computer or join a domain click Change, try to rename to what

ever you want and Reboot your machine, does it help?

Another it may be the NetBios not complete or a conflict with another name.

RE: System Error

Thank you so much for the very helpful information. I am amazed at how much I

don't know about these computers I use every day.
