Guest Sandy Wood Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I've put together a new Win 2003 TS and have just configured Folder Redirection for a Start Menu. On my TS, I created a folder on the D: drive called TSmenu and copied the shortcuts for Word 2007 and Outlook 2007 from the All Users profile. I configured the Start Menu setting as "Basic - Redirect everyone's folder to the same location". The Target folder location is set to "Redirect to the following location" and the Root Path is \\myserver\TSmenu, which is shared with the share defaults. When I login with a test user account, nothing changes, when I click Programs is still see IE, Outlook Express, Remote Assistance, Accessories and Startup. No trace of my two shortcuts. Have I missed a step? -- Sandy Wood Orange County District Attorney
Guest Jeff Pitsch Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Re: Folder Redirection of Start Menu on Win 2003 not happening Have you run RSOP to make sure that the policy has applied properly? Don't forget to create a programs folder (just like you would see in a normal start menu) and don't forget that you will need to do more than just redirect to get rid of certain common programs. You'll have to use Group Policy under Start Menu and Taskbar to get rid of common programs. Oh and are there any event log entries on the server when the user logs in? Guest Sandy Wood Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Re: Folder Redirection of Start Menu on Win 2003 not happening I ran RSOP and saw that the policy was not being applied. I think, I may have found the reason for the issue. I've been using my Vista workstation to run GPMC and to create my GPOs. I decided to install GPMC on the TS and take a look there. I opened the GPO and viewed the Settings in the right pane and saw that there was an error with the Folder Redirection. It said "The following errors were encountered: The file "\\myserver.domain.com\SysVol\domain.com\Policies\{9B9D0715-4206-47F4-8964-31C77A801FBD}\User\Documents & Settings\fdeploy.ini" is not in a valid format. Details: Object reference not set to an instance of an object." I may have corrupted this one somehow in Vista. I'll have to see what happens if I recreate the policy. -- Sandy Wood Orange County District Attorney "Jeff Pitsch" wrote: > Have you run RSOP to make sure that the policy has applied properly? > Don't forget to create a programs folder (just like you would see in a > normal start menu) and don't forget that you will need to do more than > just redirect to get rid of certain common programs. Guest Jeff Pitsch Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Re: Folder Redirection of Start Menu on Win 2003 not happening Don't use Vista to create the GPO's. Use winXP or Win2k3 if your server is a Win2k3 server or below. Jeff Pitsch Microsoft MVP - Terminal Services Sandy Wood wrote: > I ran RSOP and saw that the policy was not being applied.
