johnmyers Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 Hi all Can anyone help, ive bought my teenage son a new laptop and his old one will be given to my daughter to use for school and homework. Can anyone tell me how to check whats on it? ive checked the history but its been cleared and ive also checked the recycle bin but thats been cleared as well. I dont really want to buy a programme/disc so can anyone tell me in simple terms what he has been looking at. Im not snooping, I was once a teenager to but i dont want anything to pop up or appear when my daughter uses it. Many Thanks Quote
Jelly Bean Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 Hello and welcome.Sounds like snooping to me,I would do the exact same. Have you tried system restore? Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Starbuck Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 (edited) Why not make absolutely sure of things and just reformat/reinstall the OS. Then your daughter would have a nice clean fresh system to work with. Not being funny when i say this.... but teenagers don't have a clue when it comes to Pc's. They think they know it all..... hahaha. I wouldn't use a system after a teenager has had it. Edited June 10, 2012 by Starbuck Quote Member of:UNITE
Jelly Bean Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 Starbuck I agree I would run recovery or a fresh full install. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................

KenB Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 Hi John and welcome to ExTS Does the machine have a Recovery Disk that came with it? It is a CD. What is the make and model number of the laptop? Some come with a recovery partition on the hard drive that is accessed using one of the "F" keys. KenB Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 Hi John From what I can find - that machine came with recovery disks and a drivers disk. If this is the case it is unlikely to have a recovery partition too. If you don't have the recovery disks you could buy them here: http://www.gennersales.co.uk/recovery/fujitsuamilovista.htm This link shows Vista - but if you contacted them I am sure they could give you a price for XP. If you don't want to go down this route: You could make sure that the machine is "clean" by doing the following: 1. Start > Search > All Files and Folders type in ------ .jpg ------( i.e. full stop followed by jpg ) This will find all photographs that are stored on the machine. 2. Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Delete Delete .......History / Cookies / Temp Files / Downloaded History 3. Start > My Computer > C: > Documents & Settings Look here for saved documents. 4. Use the search option for .doc ( fullstop doc ) This will find Word Documents saved I am not on XP at the moment so if any of the above proves to be a problem get back to me :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! johnmyers Posted June 13, 2012 Author Posted June 13, 2012 Cheers KenB The laptop is fairly old, the discs probably went walkabout years ago or they are in a safe place, that safe thay I cant remember where it is. I will give your advice ago and ive also emailed Genner sales for info re: XP. Cheers John Quote
KenB Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 Hi John Let us know how you get on :) EDIT: If the machine was used for email then you may wish to delete saved emails. I can explain if necessary. KenB Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 That's good to hear John - hopefully you have deleted / removed anything that you felt necessary and your daughter now has a "new" machine that she can use :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
