The-Dragon-Man Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 (edited) The best way of fixing this problem is to format your computer and to put on a new system, as it sounds like you have some big virus and Spyware and other things that is not good for your computer. If you can not do this yourself then the best thing is to take your pc to your local pc shop for them have this done for you. Edited June 11, 2012 by Starbuck Quote
KenB Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 Hi Stevie Let's try a few things before re-installing the OS - this is always a last resort. You are using XP - do you have a full XP installation disk just in case we need it ? Download MBAM from here: (You may get re-directed to a mirror site - this is OK ) Click on "Products" - you want the free version. http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_pro Install and run it. It will produce a log on completion. Copy this and post it with your next reply. Starbuck Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 (edited) Hi Stevie, As this is a WinXp machine, it could very well be bogged down with temp files. Clean out your temporary internet files and temp files. Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator). It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin. Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion. Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean. Let me know how much was cleaned out (the program will tell you before it reboots the system) Also let me know if there's been any change. PS: Don't forget to post the report that KenB asked for, just in case this is malware related. @ The-Dragon-Man The best way of fixing this problem is to format your computer and to put on a new system That is like using a sledgehammer to crack open a nut!! We've rescued systems with a lot worse problems than this. Edited June 11, 2012 by Starbuck Quote Member of:UNITE
ukbobboy Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 PC Housekeeping (as it was called back in the day) Hi, my pc's been slow for a while now but it seems to be getting worse. startup is very slow when trying to get onto the internet and very slow surfing the net at times. sometimes pc also freezes and constantly have to send error reports. please help tech guys Stevie ps- i'm an absolute beginner! Hi Stevie12 The way I keep my XP Pro PC running good as new is by using a suite of cleaning and compression utilities made by Norton, which is called Norton Utilities 15. Now, I have always used Norton software for a range of stuff but I am not going to mention those applications here but tell you why I use Norton Utilities 15 on a daily basis. OK, here we go: When you use a PC it builds up a lot of temporary files, which are never deleted, your O/S registry, saved files on your HD, and boot-up area becomes fragmented. This causes your O/S and hard drive mechanism to search all over your HD for those fragmented files, i.e the more fragmented your files are the longer it takes to find them before your PC can do anything. Therefore, in order to de-fragment my files (put them in a continuous and sequential order), compress my O/S's registry and clean up my boot-up files I use Norton Utilities 15, which is safe and has proven itself time and time again. Rather than take my word for the product, I would suggest that you download the 30 day free trial version first, give it a try and then make your mind up about purchasing the product. 30 Day free trial available from here: http://us.norton.com/downloads And, if you want to, you can download the user guide, in PDF format, from here: http://www.norton-security-store.com/products-norton/norton-utilities-15.html If you have any queries about using Norton Utilities 15 I will be glad to give you the benefit of my own user experience.
