Sound Distortion

I have a HP Pavilion G6 Laptop, about 6 months old. Recently the sound has become extremely distorted. I use iTunes and the sound seems to be fine but as soon as I open up an internet page, the sound becomes tinny and distorted. The laptop also becomes quite slow, jumpy and jittery.

the same is with any videos that I try to play, they skip and jump and the sound is extremely distorted.

I have ran anti-virus programs and they have come back as 100% clean. I have cleared the laptop of all unnecessary junk and ran clean-up programs. I've also updated all software. I've looked on many different forums on the internet and followed advice given to other users with a similar problem. Nothing has worked so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou

Hi Leanne and welcome to ExTS :)

 

Nev is probably the best one to advise on sound issues - but until he picks this up please answer / try the following:

 

1. Start > type in ......devmgmt.msc ............ENTER

Click the + next to Sound, Video, Game Controllers

 

What is listed ?

 

Are there any yellow exclamation marks ?

 

2. If you know how to access the RAM ( under a panel in the base of the laptop ) ......

Take the modules out > clean the connections with a pencil eraser > put just one back.

Switch on and boot up.

Run the machine and test the sound.

 

If you are still getting the same problems - swap the RAM modules over and run on the other one.

Hi, OK to trying advice from different forums or websites, but it can get confusing, especially when we the helpers find the same question on various websites we visit.

However KenB has actually asked the question and advised in the same way I would, as it is sounding very much like faulty RAM modules as the sound is OK till the system has to do extra work. Please check out as Ken Suggested first then get back to us.

Also, although I have obviously seen the replies and help offered on that other site, can you please list things you have tried so far due to advice given elsewhere. That way we are not going over the same thing twice.

Also it will be of great help to us all if you stick to one forum, so please make up your mind as to which one.

Some other help forums and their members, would at this stage walk away from offering further help. Fortunately for you I am not like that.
