Guest bgreg Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 I was setting up new server in a small environment and domain controller has 2 nic setup for internet access. Inside card set to:IP 192.168.01 SM 255.255.255.0 D/G none DNS 192.168.01 Outside card set to: ip 10.10.10.11 SM 255.255.255.0 D/G 10.10.10.1 Linksys Router DNS 4.2.2.2 (public DNS server) DHCP Range 192.168.0.10-192.168.0.254 DHCP- Server01.office.local NAT - Internal connection 192.168.0.1 and automatically assign addresses 192.168.0.10-192.168.0.254 External connection 10.10.10.11 The strange thing that happens is after activating RRAS the DHCP server becomes server01.mshome.net. I disabled RRAS and dhcp server returned to server01.office.local. ipconfig /all from client machine reveals: host name pcname primary dns suffix office.local node type hybrid ip routing enabled No win proxy enabled No DNS suffix search list office.local mshome.net upon ipconfig /release and /renew mshome.net becomes office.local DHCP seems to work correctly with internet access and client getting IP address. Has anyone seen this? Any recommendations?
Guest Meinolf Weber Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Re: Windows 2003 Server R2-DHCP strange Hello bgreg, Is the server SBS version? If not then reconfigure your network to prevent you from lot's of problems. Multihoming domain controllers is a really bad solution. Connect all computers to a switch and the switch to the router, then configure the DNS server to use FORWARDER under the server properties in the DNS server management console, here set the ISP's DNS server. Use the Linksys router only for routing not for DHCP or DNS, this should do the DC.
