i have sudden lag spikes/fps drops whenever i the adjust sound up or down on my headset

i have had an issue for a while now, its only really an issue in older games like dark souls, and only happens in full screen. i believe it has to do with a "pop up" that displays your sound, although i dont think it is meant to show when you are in full screen. the lag spike last for about 7-10 seconds and then stops. any help would be appreciated 👌:)
