xbox game bar party chat not working

I am no longer able to hear chat audio from Xbox parties when signed in on my Windows 11 PC. I've tried joining parties both from the game bar and from the Xbox application but I am unable to hear anyone. The rest of the party can hear me. I've checked the volume settings while in a party and when I join the party multiple instances of Xbox show in the volume mixer portion of the sound settings. There will always be at least one instance with the volume set at 1 and the slider grayed out so I can't adjust it at all. I'm assuming this is why I can't hear the party, but I don't know how to stop
