Hi

I have searched the net of a solution to this problem and tried a few without success.

The problem is that I can't get windows update to install Vista SP2 it says it is available to down load but won't install, the error message gives error code 800b0100 which i believe is a refuse permissions code located in the registry, all the solutions that a web search brings up involve a registry cleaner which usually involves buying, i am very sceptical of registry cleaners since when you run their scans they tell you the computer has thousands of problems so I refuse to use them since using them once on my old desktop and it caused more problems than it solved.

One solution I have found from a guy call Aron Stebner's webblog that involves using a command file called SubInACL to clear the registry entries and the feedback on the blog is that it has solved a lot of installation problems but I'm a bit reluctant to use command line solutions since it might screw my computer up all together and I'm not sure if the restore command will fix it, thought I would put the problem to your members to see if they had some other solution that might not be so complex. I have searched through the forum but can’t find any related threads.

Thanks

Jim

PS since using some of the so called solutions I have had other problems, one is that I can’t use Facebook, it seems to startup but give a error “bigpipe is null” have tried to reinstall explorer but can’t install IE8 it tells me a later version is installed and if I try to install IE9 it tells me I need vista SP2 which I can’t install, so I can’t win.

Hi and welcome to ExTS

involve a registry cleaner .....sceptical of registry cleaners

You are right to be sceptical - they often do more harm than good.

Have you tried the Windows Update Readiness Tool ?

This may solve your updating problem.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/What-is-the-System-Update-Readiness-Tool

Please ensure that you download the correct version - there are 32bit and 64bit options.

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
