Hi,

When I try to get to the Firewall settings on my Server 2003 system, I always get the following message...

"Windows Firewall cannot run because another program or service is running that might use the network address translation component (Ipnat.sys)"

Any ideas what this could be?

Thanks!

Frank

Re: Server 2003 Firewall

Hello Frank,

Do you have RRAS enabled on the server and use it with more then one NIC

to connect different networks over the server?

Best regards

Re: Server 2003 Firewall

Hi Meinolf,

Is RRAS in the Services window?

I do have two different IPs on the server. One Static, and one not.

I think the Firewall is either not installed or not enabled, after doing

some more searching.

The main problem I'm having, is getting my server to be shown on my network.

It accesses the internet fine, but it's not visible to my other computers.

It's on a domain, and the option to assign it to a workgroup is grayed-out.

Thanks for your help,

Frank

Hello Frank,

Routing and remote access, you can find it under Administrative tools.

Re: Server 2003 Firewall

All is Enabled in RRA.

I'm able to use Remote Desktop from another computer to access the server,

and I'm able to Login using Logmein.com. The server can just not be seen on

the local network. Thanks!

Re: Server 2003 Firewall

Hello Frank,

Your "Windows Firewall cannot run because another program or service is running

that might use the network address translation component (Ipnat.sys)" message

belongs to the running RRAS and using NAT over the 2 NIC's. If you not use

RRAS disable it or you have to use a hardware firewall.

See the last entry from Miles Li:
