sut Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 hi guys i have an issue with my pc and i am hoping you guys can help. i have an issue over the last 6 months or so that when i am on my pc it will keep freezing and stuttrting only for a second or so, it happens when i do things like launch firefox lauch origin browse through webpages. it happens alot when am watching movies aswell. when watching the film from my hd ( not disc ) all is fine untill it will strated to freeze for and stutter this can last for about a minute or so then it will suddenly run really fast to catch itself back up and again will run fine after that, the issue seems to be getting worse with the pc freezing and locking up more and more when just lauching my browser. my system is decent running i7 cpu 6gb corsair 1600mhz ram gigabyte ga-ex58-ud5 radeon hd5870 wd velociraptor hd thermaltake toughpower 600w powersupply. does anyone have any idea what may cause this issue or any idea of a prog that i can download to test the components? thank you for any help sut Quote
KenB Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Hi and welcome to ExTS This sounds like it could be a memory issue. Take the RAM out - give the contacts a clean with a pencil eraser and put just one module back. Try the machine again If you get the same problem then swap the RAM for another module. If this is OK add the remaining module ( assuming 3 x 2GB ) If it is a module gone bad this process will identify it. sut Posted June 21, 2012 Author Posted June 21, 2012 struggling here the fastest and best way to create the issue is by running bf3 and waiting fo rit to crash problem is i cant run the game on 1 stick of 2 gig ram, Quote
KenB Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Is your problem ONLY linked to web-based activity ? Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
sut Posted June 22, 2012 Author Posted June 22, 2012 hi no its not just web-based, i get the issue of my pc freezing at random times but most the times it happens when i play battlefield 3 or when i launch origin, the other time it will happens is when im watching movies off my harddrive when watching the film from my hd ( not disc ) all is fine untill it will strated to freeze for and stutter this can last for about a minute or so then it will suddenly run really fast to catch itself back up and again will run fine after that. it does when when i launch firefox sometimes and also while browsing but this is less frequent. KenB Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 There are only 2 or 3 things that come to mind that may possibly cause that: 1 Driver software 2 The Video Card itself 3 RAM Try updating the drivers from here: http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/ati-radeon-hd-5000/hd-5870/pages/ati-radeon-hd-5870-overview.aspx#4 Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! sut Posted June 22, 2012 Author Posted June 22, 2012 i have updated my gfx card, and i cant see it being my drivers as i have done several system restores and after each 1 i still have the same issue, i agree with you that i have a good chance of it being my ram but as i am running ddr3 ram and i know these have voltage issues i am not sure if its the ram itself or a bios setting. the other thing i was thinking due to the issue with playing movies could it be a harddrive issue? Quote
KenB Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 could it be a harddrive issue? It could.... To check it do the following: Start > type in ......cmd ......right click on cmd.exe that appears top left of screen > Run as Administrator At the prompt type in ......chkdsk /f /r .......(there is a space after chkdsk and one after /f )You will probably get a prompt that tells you it will run at next re-boot. Re-boot the machine. chkdsk /f /r will find any errors and attempt to repair them.
