KenB Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 Hi Thanks for the extra pics - I can see your problem now. There has been a short on pin4 ( or in that area ) The cable is a 12-way ribbon cable part number E118077 I found this that may be of interest: click here This is 150mm long - you need to measure yours to check. 200mm long click here I did find a US location for 250mm long. It doesn't say Toshiba - but I guess that the cables used are fairly standard. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! tunna Posted June 24, 2012 Author Posted June 24, 2012 Hi thanks for finding the cables for me. The guys in the shop told me they're called bus cables...so didn't get very far. Mine is only 120mm in length so the 150mm one should be ok I guess? I don't know if you can see in the last picture, but there's a mark on the plastic connector bit from when the cable shorted. Do you think that connector will still work with a new cable? Quote
KenB Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 Do you think that connector will still work with a new cable? It is a simple matter to clean the pin. It all depends what caused the short in the first place. If it was bare wires from the ribbon cable then a new cable should fix it. tunna Posted June 24, 2012 Author Posted June 24, 2012 I'll order the cable now. What should I clean the pin with? Quote
KenB Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 You will have to be careful not to bend the pin. Is there a lady's nail board handy ? ( The type that is used to file nails ) You could cut this down and use the abrasive bit to clean the burnt pin. You could glue some very fine emery cloth to a match ( or 2 matches joined together ) A sharp, pointed knife may do it too. tunna Posted June 26, 2012 Author Posted June 26, 2012 Hi Ken, I'm writing this from my laptop :D the new cable worked or is working for now but the black mark on the connector is still there. I didn't want to damage the pin...do you think it will short the cable again? Quote
KenB Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Hi, Congratulations :) do you think it will short the cable again? Unlikely. It was probably the outer cable that caused the problem from wear and this caused 2 wires to short. If it is working then I can see no reason why it shouldn't continue to do so :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
