I tried taking ownership of the parent directory and child objects but I

Look at the Special Permissions and make sure that there are no "Denied"

permissions in there. Make sure that restrictive permissions are not

inherited from a parent folder.

I've copied off what I wanted, formatted the drive then moved back again.

Maybe a bit of an extreme fix but it accomplished what you wanted so

that is all that counts.

Forgot to mention I do need a fix as I can't do this with C, nor D.

I would have tried some utilities first like -

Unlocker

http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/

Utility for Deleting Invalid Files

http://www.purgeie.com/delinv.htm

Of course, using these are at your own risk.
