eusetep Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 I have recently started to get an error on start up on my Dell Dimension 5150 running XP SP3. The following attachments are in order as they appear with the last two being the first two pages of the error details. Quote
KenB Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Hi Have you sent the error report to Microsoft ? They will often reply with a suggested fix. The problem seems to be linked with MSVCR90.dll Try Start > Run ....type in .....regsvr32 msvcr90.dll ............ENTER ( there is a space after 32 ) This will re-register the dll. eusetep Posted June 25, 2012 Author Posted June 25, 2012 Could not be found Thanks for your help. Yes, I did send an error report to Microsoft but as yet no response. Tried what you suggested but got the attached error message. Quote
KenB Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 I have done a bit of background reading on this one. Do you have "searchsettings.exe" or "Spigot / Spigot inc" in your list of Add/Remove from Control Panel ? If so I suggest that you delete them. See here Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
eusetep Posted June 26, 2012 Author Posted June 26, 2012 I couldn't find any reference to the file in the Control Panel Add or Remove programs. However when I carried out a search I discovered the SearchSettings.exe file in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Spigot\Search Settings. In that folder there was also a wth.dll 5.9.0.3 file. If I delete the 'Spigot' folder, will this do the trick? Quote
KenB Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Hi, Download Revo Uninstaller from here: click here When you run it - it will list all installed software. ( This will take a few minutes ) Spigot / searchsettings.exe should show up. Highlight it > select Uninstall from the toolbar When prompted select the "Advanced" option. eusetep Posted June 27, 2012 Author Posted June 27, 2012 G'day Ken, I installed Revo Uninstaller but the file did not show up. What have I done? I seemed to have created a ghostly monster! Quote
KenB Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Hi Spigot is, as far as I can find out, a Tool Bar. C:\Program Files\Common Files\Spigot\Search Settings. In that folder there was also a wth.dll 5.9.0.3 file. wth.dll 5.9.0.3 this is directly linked with Spigot too. This .dll was referred to in your error report in your first post. It can't do any harm to delete the Spigot \search settings folder along with wth.dll 5.9.0.3 Check here too: Start > type in .....msconfig .....ENTER Click the Startup Tab. If anything related to Spigot is listed there - make sure it is un-checked and click the Apply / OK button. eusetep Posted June 28, 2012 Author Posted June 28, 2012 G'day I started msconfig and checked the startup tab but spigot and anything related was not there. I then tried to delete the spigot folder. wth.dll would not delete. I then just deleted searchsettings.exe. I then had to restart Windows. Would you believe there was no error message. Just to prove it I again restarted and again no error messages. I am convinced you have resolved the problem. Many thanks for your forbearance. I am 72 and had no idea for what reason I was doing the things you requested but it appears to have worked. Thank you. Quote
KenB Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 You are very welcome. If it wasn't showing up in Revo then it must have been running direct from the file itself. By deleting that you should have removed the problem. Glad that it worked for you :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
