Guest mohd218 Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 I have always used the 'Adminiustrator' account since I bought my laptop. I created a new account 'mohd' few days ago with administrative rights. The 'Administrator' Login has now disappeared off the desktop and I cannot log into it to use my set desktop, browser with favourites and passwords etc. I do not know how to restore the Administrator login back onto the desktop so that there will be an option of the 2 accounts to log in by switching users. Please help. Cheers
Guest JS Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Re: Cannot get Administrator Login Icon on Desktop after creating acco The account named 'Administrator' is still there (but hidden once you created that second account). If you want this account displayed on the Welcome screen along with your new account then download and install TweakUI. Power Toy's - Tweak UI from Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx Once you start TweakUI, click on the 'Login' option. (which is located near the bottom of the list displayed on the left side) Now in the 'Settings' box on the right side check the 'Show "Administrator" on Welcome screen' box. Next click the 'Apply' button and then 'OK' to exit TweakUI. The next time you boot you should see the Administrator account. Enter Administrator in the User name box and any password you've set for this account to log in. Moving on, you might want to consider saving the Administrator account for emergency use only. You can copy the files from the Administrator account into your new account by following the procedure outlined here. How do I copy a user profile in Windows XP? http://www.petri.co.il/copy_user_profiles_in_windows_xp.htm How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/811151 Note: You'll need to create a third admin account to complete the procedure. That account can be deleted once you're done. If you're determined to have the Administrator account available on the Welcome screen take a look at these articles.
