What do you use for burning?

Running XP Pro and have been using Nero for a while, but recently, it seems

to have issues and it has always been more complicated than my needs

dictate. I know you can burn to DVD and CD from within the OS, but I do not

really like that approach. Therefore I was hoping some of you could let

me/us know what you use to burn to DVD's and CD's with? Whether it be

freeware or low cost is fine. Just trying to see what others use that is

reliable, easy to use, and gets the job done without a bunch of buttons or

confusion and without errors. Thanks for the input!

Do you have Nero Express?

Seriously though, you have to choose the type of disk, drag your files then

click about 2 times to burn a CD/DVD for both Nero Burning Rom and Express.

So three clicks to burn a disk.

It doesn't get much simpler than that - the only thing simpler would be to

get someone else to do it.

Nero Express 6.6 was the best Nero one in XP.

Then it went downhill in later versions, like Nero 7.0

Ashampoo Ver 6 - Free

Available here:

We have NEVER had a problem with the software and, interestingly, it does

what it is supposed to do.

Last time I checked you could not "burn to DVD and CD from within the OS".

You can burn to CDs, if you are willing to give up some control, from

within XP but not DVDs. So far as I know SP3 didn't add DVD capability

although I'll admit I never looked after installing it.

As for what I use, I find that Nero 6 fits all of my needs. I've used 7 and

even have 8 installed on my HTPC but my experience is that 6 was the

pinnacle of their achievements.

Do you just want to burn data disks? Or do you want to create CDs and

DVDs you can listen to and watch? If the former, XP does allow you to

burn data to CDs (but not to DVDs AFAIK). If the latter, you will need a

program such as Nero. Nero shouldn't be difficult at all to use. Perhaps

you should post to a Nero support forum.

FWIW, I've had success with CDBurnerXP, which is free and very easy to

use:

I have an OEM version of Nero but its pretty much the same as others.

But for most data burning, the only part I use is the Nero Burning Rom

part. I like the simplicity of the 2pain source/dest panes. I find

it a few minor clicks and drags and the CD is burned.

C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero\nero.exe

CDBurnerXP is pretty much the same but free and good.

For backup I use Acronis True Image as it does a more thorough backup to

an external HD. I'm not likely to use it for CD's though, just

tossing it out.

I'd vote to stay away from Roxio Easy CD Creator. Might be powerful, but.

And I'd steer away from the built in ntbackup too as others have

suggested.

I liked Nero until a couple of versions ago when it wouldn't consistently

work. Have used the OEM and pro versions of the software with similar

results. May try the Ashampoo software as someone suggested. Thanks for all

of the input!

FWIW I've been using the Ashampoo Burning Studio for over two years now and

found it completely reliable. Hard to see how one could go wrong with it. I

use it on a weekly basis to burn CDs of sermons for my parishoners. Good

luck.

I use ImgBurn for DVDs. It's free and runs circles around commercial burning

programs such as Nero IMHO.

I'll second the use of CDBurnerXP, which, despite the name, also burns

DVD's.
