Guest JJ Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 When I run disk defragmentor get a message stating that all files could not be defragmented and I should review the report to see which files could not be defragmented. But when I view the report there seem to be no files indicated. What's up? How do I get a complete disk defrag? Thanks -- jj
Guest Gerry Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 Re: Problem w/ Disk Defrag JJ How many files are not defragmented? The Report gives this information. On my system it discloses one file, which is the MFT (Master File Table) but never included in the list of fragmented files. Another file which is never listed is the pagefile. It so happens that the pagefile on my system is not fragmented so I have accounted for the files which remain fragmented after running Disk Defragmenter. -- Hope this helps. Guest Gerry Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Re: Problem w/ Disk Defrag JJ You are not reading the Report properly. This is the relevant bit! File fragmentation Total files = 59,721 Average file size = 379 KB Total fragmented files = 1 Total excess fragments = 17 Average fragments per file = 1.00 The fragmented file is the MFT, which is never listed! -- Hope this helps.
