Why did my PC restart from sleep mode?

earlier today i put my windows 10 pc into sleep mode. later i came back, turned it on, and it restarted and gave me a blue screen of death. it's working fine now, but what caused this? do i need to run an antivirus? i did have it doing a lot when i put it to sleep.
