I recently bought a TOSHIBA Stor.E Alu2 2.5" USB HDD. The first time I backed up it worked fine. On the second occasion, after the backup had completed I got the message - "the backup completed but some files were skipped" and a more specific message: "backup skipped backing up E:\TOSHIBA\launcher\new folder as it is on the backup target"

I want to back up all my files so what do I do to stop the backup skipping files?

Were you using software supplied with the HDD or simply copying the files?

I used the back up and restore option available in Windows 7 on the control panel. I presume therefore that the files were copied. The only software that came with the HDD which has been installed on my laptop is the operating manual, which is downloadable from the HDD.

Hi, we are seeing quite a few odd glitches with the Windows 7 backup system, myself included, as I could never get a backup to actually do anything, it told me it had, it put a folder on the external hard drive, but the folder was empty.

I gave up on it and now use third party imaging software that I know does work and works well.

There are quite a few free ones to choose from, including Easus Todo backup, and Macrium Reflect.

If wanting any more information on that please ask, as I went for the Macrium Reflect, so can guide you through the install and use.
