MercurysMoustache Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Hello! I have a problem with my desktop computer. When I play games, the game will run smoothly for 10-15 minutes, then lag spike making the game unplayable. I have updated all my hardware drivers, but no change. I'm not sure where to go from here. Has anyone has a similar problem? Quote
maynardvdm Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Hi Sounds like your graphics card is overheating. What are the specs for your pc? Are all the games doing the same or just one? KenB Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 I have to agree with maynardvdm - it does sound like something getting hot. Download Speccy from here: click here If you run it when playing the games that cause the problem it will give you temperatures. Make a note of these and post with your next reply. MercurysMoustache Posted July 1, 2012 Author Posted July 1, 2012 (edited) Thanks so much about the replies! The graphics card itself peaks at 106C which defiantly seems dangerously high. I always leave my computer on at night, which doesn't help. I'm going to turn it off tonight, clear some dust. Edited July 1, 2012 by MercurysMoustache Quote
KenB Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Graphics Cards - depending on which one - can max at around 100C but it is hot. If there is dust this can cause overheating. use a soft brush or preferably a can of compressed air. use short bursts as the propellant forms a liquid if used for a long time. Leaving the machine on will not normally cause the card to heat up. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MercurysMoustache Posted July 1, 2012 Author Posted July 1, 2012 Thank you! It's most likely the dust. I should have some compressed air somewhere. Quote

MercurysMoustache Posted July 1, 2012 Author Posted July 1, 2012 Let us know how you get on :) Will do. Thanks a bunch! The temperature is already slowly decreasing. I moved the computer away from the wall a little bit, too. Quote
