unread mail messaage

On my opening screen, just below my user name, appears the message: "1 unread

mail message". I have searched everywhere I can imagine, and cannot find any

unread mail. How can I get rid of that message?

The easiest way is to install the free TweakUI Power Toy from Microsoft. I

believe the "unread email messages" setting is under Explorer, but if it

isn't I'm sure you can easily find it.

Overview of the mail notification display on the Windows XP Welcome screen

Copy and paste the below as disbale.reg on your desktop then right click on

it and Select Merge to merge to your registry:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail\]

"MessageExpiryDays"=dword:00000000

Reboot your machine, does the unread emal shows on the welcome screen?

If you are at ease in modifying the registry:

Start---run---regedit---ok

Go to;

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail

Double click the value 'message count' in the right pane and change the

value to 0/

Edit; CatchUp might take care of that. Or clicking Headers might bring

in the errant message if you're set to only download New headers.

Re: unread mail messaage

For Passport/Unread Mail Issues:

Go to Start/Run and type in: control userpasswords2. Advanced/Manage

Passwords/Remove.

Tip:

Add Control Userpasswords2 to the Control Panel (Line 1)

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Use TweakUI/Logon/Unread Mail and Repair/Unread Mail Count

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

or:

Disable Unread Mail on the Welcome Screen (Line 100)

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To remove an account or to change the count manually Go to:

Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail\[Your

E-Mail Address]. In the right pane modify: Message Count, Change it to 0.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail. In

the right pane modify: MessageExpiryDays Change it to 0.
