Loki180 Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 So, I have TalkTalk broadband. For the past few years I have used the WiFi not connecting with the Yellow wire. But now I want to move a PC up stairs. I brought a longer White wire so it would reach from downstairs where it is plugged in to upstairs (if I just plug in modem in upstairs it will not connect) So this is the idea I have downstairs the phone that is plugged into another white wire extender that leads from the main plug in the wall. In that extender is the phone and the OTHER extender that leads upstairs to a room just above. The extender leading upstairs has the internet modem plugged into it. now the extender white wire from the other extender downstairs has one of those white square plugs. (the ones that go from the main socket and the phone and modem connects too) And that Square plug is where the modem is plugged into. BUT now this is the annoying part! it will not connect to the internet without being in the same plug as the phone downstairs! I have a few more ideas that I want but so far no luck. Sorry for not knowing the names of the wires and the white plug but its just something have not needed to know! Thanks for any help! Quote
Jelly Bean Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Hello and welcome. I to have a very long eithernet cable. I am with BT now but used to be with Sky and Virgin. What you need to do is leave the modem/router downstairs connected to the phone line then just remove the yellow cable and plug in the new white one then plug the white one into the computer upstairs. Are you sure you bought the right type of cable? Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Loki180 Posted July 2, 2012 Author Posted July 2, 2012 Hey, thanks for the reply! I will give it a try Quote
Loki180 Posted July 2, 2012 Author Posted July 2, 2012 The yellow wire meaning the wire that goes from the modem to the PC the yellow wire can not fit into the white wire. The yellow wire is very short in comparison to the white ones. I think I am just going to give them a call and if no joy I will change to BT Quote
KenB Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Hi, If you are with TalkTalk are you using their router. http://is03.thegumtree.com/image/big/129865391.jpg It could look like this .......but there are many different options. The yellow cable you refer to is an ethernet cable ( I think ) http://www.scadametrics.com/images/Patch_Yellow_03.jpg Your router will also need a Filter before the phone socket http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31zSQGW9bBL._SL500_AA300_.jpg Every phone / answerphone / Sky TV etc that is on the phone network will need a filter too. If the router has been set-up downstairs and computers can connect to the internet OK then there should not be a problem with a wired connection. Can you connect to the internet using the router - even from downstairs ? Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
