lisalegs Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Hi all. I was using my pc ten mins ago, all was well, then it turned off. I tried to restart, and i got to a screen asking to choose my start up mode, and no matter which i chose, the pc turns off. Any ideas whats wrong and how to rectify?? Thanks. Quote
Starbuck Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Hi Lisa, Very odd you should post this. I've just had the same problem on my mothers XP Home pc. System booted up ok, then when you go to log in...... it logs in and then logs out straight away. Tried 'Last Known Good Configuration' ... but that didn't seem to work. Ran a disc scan .... when that finished, the system booted and worked normally. Very odd. I haven't checked to see if there was any Windows Updates that came through today..... you never know if something like that may have caused it. Does your system boot normally now or are you still having problems? Quote Member of:UNITE
KenB Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Hi lisalegs and welcome to ExTS Is this a laptop or desktop ? Do you get a Blue Screen when it shuts down? If so - can you post the STOP Error please ? If a desktop - take the side panel off ( with the machine switched off of course :) ) and inspect it for dust. Look especially at the fan on top of the Central Processor. You can clean it with a soft brush or better still a can of compressed air.
