windows 10 Microsoft Account keeps asking for defunct email

Hi, guysI had occasion recently to make some edits to items on my Microsoft Account, and got a pop-up correctly identifying me by user name which is my primary email address on that account, and then saying "We need to verify it's you. Send a code to <email address>". The email address it quoted was an old one which I used long ago on my Account, but which has been long since expunged from that Account (both primary and back-up), from my Skype Account, and from everywhere else I thought it could be. It no longer works so perseverance is not an option. Why does it do this?Where do I nee
