dmouse09 Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 hi again. im back with another thing i need help with. now that my new pc is working perfectly i am stuck with the problem of transfering the files from my laptop to my pc. both are connected to the router wirelessly. i have set the partition drive (containing all the files i need to transfer) to shared the status, and i have mapped the drive and created a network drive in my computer on my laptop. however i have no idea how to access the network drive on my new pc. can i do it wirelessly or via an rj45 cable. either way i have no idea how to. please help Quote
KenB Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Hi again transfering the files from my laptop to my pc. The simplest way is to put them on a memory stick and move them across from that. RandyL Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 I couldn't agree with Ken more. It will save you a tremendous amount of grief. Networking two PC's is an option but it can be a pain to set up. Compounding the setup is that you have XP and Windows 7. These two systems set up differently by themselves but the real pain is networking the two together. You have to chose the right group, the names have to be the same, you have to change the security settings in advanced options and type the right permissions for the sharing etc etc etc. XP to XP or 7 to 7 networking is not that hard but XP to 7 networking is not nearly so simple. I usually set a restore point first so I can go back and start over after I muck it up. I don't do it enough to remember. And if you have a security suite that manages network connections you may have to manually over ride a lot of settings to get the two to see each other both ways on XP and 7.
