Why in God's name has Windows 11 decided that all of my photos need to be in HEIC?!

Trying to print photos and noticed they were all pixelated and terrible looking. Checked properties and saw they were in HEIC format. Googled it since I have no idea what that is and read that it is Apple's thing. Also saw in several places that "Windows doesn't change image format" so it has to be because I downloaded them from an iPhone. Except that I didn't. I don't own an I anything. Not a phone or a reader or a pod doo hickey. No one else accesses this computer and I would not do this to myself on purpose. So, how do I fix this?
