Brigham Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 I had a couple of messages saying missing files. I ran Hijackthis, and it opened notepad but it was blank. Any ideas? Quote
KenB Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 I had a couple of messages saying missing files. Can you post the exact error message and are you still getting this now ? b.t.w. - Our Security Experts don't use HJT anymore - it is outdated. If they need a log they will explain how to use OTL. Brigham Posted July 8, 2012 Author Posted July 8, 2012 This is one of the files I get a message about. C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\TrendMicro\HijackThis.logfiles As it is to do with Hijackthis perhaps it just as well it is out of date. I noticed a couple of warnings about missing files but I haven't been able reproduce it. Quote
KenB Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Hi, Suggest that you uninstall HJT and delete the file from the TrendMicro folder. If you get the missing file warning again please make a note of it and post it here. I assume all is OK otherwise ? Brigham Posted July 9, 2012 Author Posted July 9, 2012 KenB Thanks for your help. There is one thing missing from my computer, and that is the webcam. It used to be there, but now it isn't. I very rarely use it so it is not vital. The Fujitsu web site is not too user friendly, so I haven't been able to download anything to replace the webcam. If you know of anything I could do I would try it. Quote
KenB Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Hi Start > type in ....devmgmt.msc............ENTER Click the + next to "Imaging Devices" The Webcam should show up here. Is there a yellow exclamation mark or red X next to it ? You can right click on it and "Enable" if it is a red X. or right click on it and "update driver software" Do this automatically - you will need an internet connection. If this fails - right click > uninstall. Re-boot. Windows should find "new hardware" and re-install the drivers. Brigham Posted July 9, 2012 Author Posted July 9, 2012 I did as you said, and it all checked out ok. FH13FF-238 is the imaging device and properties says it is all in working order, but it seem to habe no way for me to open it. Quote
KenB Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Did you try uninstalling and let Windows re-install the drivers ? If you goto Start .........type in ..........webcam ......ENTER Does the webcam open ? Brigham Posted July 9, 2012 Author Posted July 9, 2012 When I type in webcam, it goes to device manager, how to add new hardware, and update device drivers. That is all. Quote
KenB Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 You never said if you tried uninstalling the webcam from device manager and letting Windows re-install the drivers. Have you ? Brigham Posted July 10, 2012 Author Posted July 10, 2012 I haven't tried that. Do I just uninstall it from device manager? If I do what then, how to I get it back from windows? Quote
KenB Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Right click on the device in Device Manager > Uninstall Reboot the machine. Windows should find new hardware and re-install the appropriate driver for it. Try Start > webcam again. Brigham Posted July 10, 2012 Author Posted July 10, 2012 I uninstalled and rebooted, but webcam only brought up device manager. When I rebooted it told me that it was installing drivers, but still no camera. Quote
KenB Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Hi When you go to Start and type in ............webcam ........... ( don't hit Enter ) What do you get in the left panel ? KenB Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 I can see now why you ended up in Device Manager. When I do this I have "Acer Crystal Eye Webcam" showing. It is as if you have no means of running the webcam. Try installing ManyCam http://www.manycam.com/ I have just tested it and as soon as I open it my web cam is functioning. Brigham Posted July 10, 2012 Author Posted July 10, 2012 Webcam has appeared. I can't get it to enlarge but it is there. So thank you. Everything is ok. Quote
