Guest Lee Ann Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 Sorry, I'm new to posts. I should have explained my problem better... When I turn on my dell 4500 the computer acts like it is starting, then it goes to a black screen that says: The following file is missing or corrupt: <windows root>system32\ntoskrnl.exe. Please reinstall the file. Well, after using F8 I can't do anything. I searched the posts and found one that recommended using the XP disk and going to recovery console and using the expand command and then overwriting. I tried that and it said "Access denied". What now? Thanks for your patience!

Guest John John (MVP) Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Re: Ntoskrnl.exe is missing or corrupt She can't boot the machine so she can't run SFC, Ronaldo. Guest Ronaldo Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Re: Ntoskrnl.exe is missing or corrupt Sorry, thought I'd read she could boot it in Safe Mode.. guess I didn't pay that much attention... I know cmd is not MS-DOS (MicroSoft Disk Operating System), but she doesn't have access to CMD.EXE either, so that is besides the point. I know she meant MS-DOS as the black screen, as an idea not as a program and I didn't see the need to go into specific details. correct me if I'm wrong, I can admit a mistake and appreciate the input... ------------------------------ "John John (MVP)" <audetweld@nbnet.nb.ca> escribió en el mensaje news:%23pAW$0mLJHA.3764@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > She can't boot the machine so she can't run SFC, Ronaldo.
