Installing Media Center Over XP Pro: What Am I Looking For?

Did the install once - got into trouble when it kept asking for

SP2 - CD1, so I bypassed all those copies and then applied SP2

afterwards.

Result was that I can't see any diff from when I started.

TB expected maybe - as SP2 could have downleveled the Media

Center stuff?

But now I'm running a second Media Center install.

When all the dust settles, what am I looking for to tune TV

programs? I've got an ATSC card in there. Whether the driver

is A-OK is another question.... could the absence of a tuner card

be making XP look like it's not Media Center? Or am I looking

for a specific application (other than Media Player) to tune TV?

I don't know that you can do an upgrade in place (I'd be inclined to do a

clean install myself), but you'll definitely get more expert help if you

post in an MCE group.

Browsing Microsoft's spiel on watching TV at

http://tinyurl.com/32pqdz, it sounds like I should see a Start |

Programs | Windows Media Center

Second install's done, but there's no such group.

Can anybody report that they've successfully installed Windows XP

Media Center Edition 2005 over top of Windows XP Pro?

I'm browsing a list of "Microsoft.Public" NGs, but nothing jumps

out at me.

What does "MCE" stand for?

"Media center... something-or-other"?

Media Centre Edition is not an "add-on" to XP Pro. It should not be

installed on top of it. As far as I know, you can not install this on

top of Pro and it should be re-installed on a "cleaned" hard drive.
