Can't open TXT files with Notepad??

I have some txt files I am attempting to make very simplistic modifications to. For some reason Notepad is not appearing in the list of programs to open the txt file with. When I navigate to the System32 folder to point it to Notepad.exe, I get this error:This is a txt file, and Notepad is designed to open txt files. Why can I not open txt files with it, and why can I not set it to default?Important note: this is for the normal version of notepad, not the new fake version with the tabs that no one likes.
