IE 8 and problem viewing websites that use .php

First time poster, so not sure where this goes. A couple of problems to get

advice on what to do.

First, after installing IE 8 beta, it hangs if it using the java

application. If you open several browsers that use java on it's web pages, it

hangs up and you can't close it. Only way for me to close it, is to use task

manager and chose end application. Question is, is there a fix for this not

to happen?

Second question is, some websites use .PHP on them. I thought maybe it had

to do with IE 8 beta causing the problem. But i also notice the same problem

in firefox, but not as bad as using IE. Could the problem be tied to the

service pack 3 that was released? And is there a fix or something that can be

done to view these webpages correctly?

Thanks.

Thanks for the link to help with IE 8.

Any idea about where or what I should do about websites using .php? I go to

irc galleria, which is a finnish site and a friend posts pictures there.

Whenever I try to view the webpage, there is a black square that is the size

of her pictures on the site. You can't see see much because it covers half of

the original picture and general information on the user. Any idea about this

and what can be done?

Kursh

You didn't mention your Operating system version or why you are usinga

product still in Beta Testing stage?

If you want to Remove IE8 from your machine try this:

Click Start >> Control panel>> Add/Remove programs>> make sure the the check

box for :

[ √ ] Show Updates on the top corner is checked and then scroll down to IE8

and remove it.

How to uninstall Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2

<Q>

How to uninstall Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2

To uninstall Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 in Windows Vista, follow these steps:

1. Click StartStart button, type Programs and Features in the Start Search

box, and then click Programs and Features in the Programs list.

User Account Control permission If you are prompted for an administrator

password or confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

2. In the Tasks pane, click View installed updates.

3. Click Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2, and then click Uninstall.

If Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 does not appear in the Currently Installed

Updates list, run the following command at an elevated command prompt:

FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages/M

Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-8*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling

package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart"

Assistive technology

Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 is not yet fully compatible with all versions of

Assistive Technology applications, including Job Access With Speech (JAWS),

Window-Eyes, and ZoomText. Menu and Web content reading may not function

correctly. JAWS 9.0.2169 is the first version of JAWS that is compatible with

Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2.

To enable Assistive Technology programs to perform correctly before updates

are available, follow these steps when you install Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2.

Warning This workaround may make a computer or a network more vulnerable to

attack by malicious users or by malicious software such as viruses. We do not

recommend this workaround but are providing this information so that you can

implement this workaround at your own discretion. Use this workaround at your

own risk.

1. If you are running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, disable

protected mode. To do this, follow these steps:

a. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.

b. On the Security tab, click to clear the Enable Protected Mode option for

the following zones:

• Internet

• Local intranet

• Trusted sites

• Restricted sites

We strongly recommend that you browse only to Web sites that you trust while

protected mode is disabled.

2. Install Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2.

3. After installation is complete, modify the registry. To do this, follow

these steps.

Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to

modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the

registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps

carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it.

Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information

about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article

number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

322756 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/) How to back up and restore

the registry in Windows

a. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.

b. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

c. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.

d. Type PPT, and then press ENTER.

e. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.

f. Type LCIE_FTW, and then press ENTER.

g. On the Edit menu, click Modify.

Note The values in these registry entries are configured to be "0" when you

perform steps 3c through 3g.

4. Start Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2.

The browser prompts you for configuration information when you start it for

the first time.

5. Re-enable protected mode.

Note When you uninstall Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2, the system reverts to

the earlier version of Internet Explorer, and Assistive Technology programs

perform as they did previously.

</Q>

After rolling back to IE7 try to run a thorough scan for malware and viruses

then clean up and update your Java application.

Krusk, I went to "irc galleria"; it loaded OK, and I could click on the

photos to enlarge them fine.

This computer is XP Pro SP3, with IE7.

That rules out SP3.

That leaves IE8 as the culprit.
