Have a HP Envy 600 Win 10-computer, about 10 years of age. Suddenly the sound gets very weak

I have a desktop-computer HP Envy 600 about 8 years of age (i7-processor, 16 GB RAM, 1TB SSD etc.) running Windows 10 with the latest update. Suddenly the sound signal from the computer got very weak. With volume at maximum, I can still hear a weak sound from the connected sound-system. If I direct the sound to play on another unit (TV for instance) it sounds good with normal volume. For me it looks like the computers output amplifier does not work properly or a sound firmware is missing!? The odd thing is that some time the sound comes back with full strength without me having done anything.
