Guest Jesus Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Hi all, I have a question to ask of you experts. I have Windows 2003 R2 CDs. Once you install Windows from scratch and you log into the machine for the first time the system will ask you to insert the 2nd CD from this install. If I disregard this message and continue on my marry way will there be issues with my install later due to the fact that this second CD was not inserted? Not related to R2 components. I'm wondering if there are essential files that are in CD2 that are necessary for Windows to operate properly. I know the 2nd CD from what many people have been saying is not needed and if you install Windows without it is like installing the old version of Windows 2003 without the bells of Windows 2003 R2. Is this correct or am I shooting myself in the foot by not installing this 2nd CD in? Please advise your input is greatly appreciated. Jesus
Guest RLEE71 Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 RE: Windows 2003 R2 Installation No problem at all. If you do wish to install the R2 components later, just run D:\CMPNENTS\R2\setup2.exe from the second disk. There really isn't any reason to not install the R2 components at install time though. Just my $0.02 worth. "Jesus" wrote: > Hi all, > > I have a question to ask of you experts. I have Windows 2003 R2 CDs. Guest Meinolf Weber Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Re: Windows 2003 R2 Installation Hello Jesus, If you only need 2003 wothout the R2 features you can stop after disk one. Also you can run setup2.exe from disk 2 at any time you like. Also disk 2 is needed if you have the need to add a 2003 R2 server as additional Domain controller, then you have to run adprep from the second disk to upgrade the schema to version 31. With 2003 from disk one the schema is version 30.
