Explorer is occasionally crashing and restarting itself. No error msg

displayed. On restart, it displays an Explorer browser window, but the

Desktop and Taskbar do not reappear. Ctrl-Alt-Del to Task Manager works

fine. If this is a known problem, please point me to the relevant URLs.

Thanks.

Event Log: "The shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was restarted."

Win XP Pro, with SP3 installed on top of SP2

Core 2 Duo 1.86 GHz, 3.5 GB RAM

You may want to try and get the update from this KB article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955109

At the top of the page, click on "View and request hotfix downloads",

follow the instructions. Let me know how it goes.

Ignore any posts made by the Stalker Leythos, he's still in love with me.

He started stalking me after I spurned his advances towards me.

He said he would stop Stalking me If I stopped mentioning his name.

As you can see that does not work. He is a sick obsessive STALKER.

Re: Windows Explorer crashing and restarting

Various malware likes to do that but usually tries to freeze u out.

Anything in TM look funny? How about in Reg startup locations?

Hope that helps. Larry

A working unsecure OS is infinitely better than non-working secure OS.

Just spent 1 week cleaning up the mess WUpdate made preventing

hypothetical security problems. http://microscum.com/comsense/

Did you checked the Even Viewer Log for cluses?

Make sure you scan thoroughly this machine with an up2date anti-virus and

anti-malware software.

Run this command:

sfc /scannow

The shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was restarted.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891608

Windows Explorer may exit unexpectedly when you use it to view TIFF files in

the Details view in Windows Server 2003

This person has SP3 installed, those KB's wouldn't apply.

Yep, I know the Op has SP3 and the above link for NT and Server2003 no even

for XP but I was given the Info for the Op to read for a similar scenario and

the Registry Keys can be the same no difference from XP/ SP3.
